Behind The Barn Door With Back Country Farm
Sport Horse Lifestyle
What better way to start our "Behind the Barn Door" series than with a family owned and operated Equestrian Business? Back Country Farm, run by the mother/daughter power duo Jill and Sydney Shulman, is a force to be reckoned with on the East Coast Show Circuit.
Back Country Farm splits their year between their summer location in Greenwich, CT and their newly purchased Wellington Farm. Perhaps most uniquely, the Shulman's business is able to cater to clients throughout the entirety of their equestrian careers (a very rare ask in the equestrian world).
Jill trains the younger clientele throughout their formative years; laying down a solid foundation. She boasts a clientele that is incredibly successful in the pony and junior rider divisions. Looking to fulfill some Grand Prix Dreams? Daughter Sydney manages the more developed riders who wish to achieve a higher level of competition; that she herself excels in.
At only 21 years of age, Sydney possess a list of accomplishments that encompass both the Hunter and Jumper disciplines. Many at the top level of the sport can attest to the difficulty of achieving such a great level of success in such vastly different styles of competition.
Their newest Wellington base features everything you would expect from a that is barn not only competing, but thriving, in the highest level of the sport. Sitting on 4.1 acres (incredibly large by Wellington standards), the barn contains 18 stalls, 3 Bedroom/3 Bath Groom's Quarters, 6 massive paddocks, and an all weather schooling ring.
Additionally, each wing of the barn contains mirror image tack room, feed room, and rider lounge. Such a spacious layout is not only conducive to a productive work environment for the riders, but is also a relaxing sanctuary for the horses who will be competing in the Winter Equestrian Festival just down the road.
